No More ‘Good’ or ‘Bad’: Transforming Your Mindset & Relationship Around Food

By concentrating on how you feel rather than what the scale says, you’ll build a healthier relationship with both food and your body.

When it comes to weight management, many people often think it’s about cutting out entire food groups or surviving on salads and smoothies. But as a Clinical Naturopath, I’ve seen time and time again that sustainable weight loss is much more about balance and nourishing your body rather than restricting it.

I remember working with a client a few years ago who came to me feeling completely overwhelmed. She’d tried every diet under the sun—low-carb, keto, fasting—but nothing stuck, and she always ended up feeling worse than when she started. She was exhausted, her gut was all over the place, and she had lost her connection with food. Together, we shifted her mindset from “what not to eat” to focusing on nutrient-dense, whole foods that would support her metabolism, gut health, and energy levels.

In 3-6 months, she was feeling energised, her digestion had improved, and the weight began to come off naturally—without the yo-yo effect she’d battled for years. Below, we talk more in-depth about what we explored together, to help her reach her goals of weight loss.

Make Changes That Last

What I’ve learned from my experience as a naturopath is that long-term success comes from making sustainable changes. You don’t need to overhaul your entire diet overnight or follow a rigid eating plan. Small, consistent changes—like adding more vegetables to your meals, swapping processed snacks for whole foods, and paying attention to your body’s hunger signals—can lead to lasting results.

My Personal Journey with Nutrition

Like many of my clients, I’ve had my own ups and downs when it comes to nutrition. There was a time when I felt the pressure to follow restrictive diets, and it left me feeling frustrated and disconnected from my body. It wasn’t until I started focusing on nourishing my body with whole, unprocessed foods that I began to feel more balanced and energised.

I’ve carried that personal experience into my practice, and it’s now at the core of how I work with my clients—helping them rebuild a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.
